Sold Out Poem by Bolami lawal

Sold Out

They set their land on fire,
with their own hands
their homes they set ablaze
and watched it burn;
they have made a pact,
and sold out their souls in a hurry....

They offered their lips to lie
and pledged their lives to death;
their merchandise is of doom,
and it's thriving;
the image of love is smeared,
on their streets and in their gatherings
the place of truth is empty....

They sowed violence,
they planted evil and tendered its root,
upon their exalted altar
they slaughtered the Lord of peace
and magnified their guns;
they shielded the truth from the light
and were paid with riches and fame,
they sold out their souls in a hurry,
damned generations to come;
Lo! their place is in the PIT.
