Solo Poem by Leah DeCresce

Solo

You are the shifting bluegreen of the ocean,
all tumbling waves & chaotic life beneath.

You are a mess, once my mess;
flying objects, tornadoes, & gale force winds.

You are the arctic wolf,
preying alone, preying on me,
fighting to survive in a suburban wasteland.

You are close-lipped, tight-mouthed, & silent;
furious, anxious, afraid.

You are a diamond in the sun,
shooting rays of every color as you
shine brighter than any star.

You are cautious, careful, hypocritical-
chaotically loved but it is never returned.

You were an island,
You were a fortress,
You were a violent, unmoving army.

you were mine.
