Some Nights Poem by Brian Sonberg

Some Nights

overtones mistaken
grandeur a-flutter
let loose the words
war against an unknowing enemy
or are we friends?

tonight is bland
melts too easily into
tomorrow
like a scratch in the record
doomed to repeat
repeat that face
repeat those eyes

where is it now, that heart
where are they now, those tears
lost
but still these strings
stay pulled so tight
to sing
should the song appear again
