Something About Her Poem by Jessica Lindsey

Something About Her

Rating: 5.0

It appears that she applies
her pride with her makeup
(painting on confidence
with a pencil and brush)
because yesterday I saw
her in her raw form-
Eyes down, head bent,
rushing to the safety
of her room. But today
she walks, back straight
and chin tilted ever
so slightly towards the sky.
And then she smiles
and I swear you could feel it inside
of you and it's intoxicating.
And then she's gone
and though she never spoke a
word to you, the sun has somehow
left with her and the world is colder
and you lay in bed and stare at the ceiling
which you're pretty sure didn't used to be
gray.
