Sonnet: The Red Lotus (Senthaamarai) Poem by Dr John Celes

Sonnet: The Red Lotus (Senthaamarai)

From murky waters of the lake,
Arise the buds of beauteous make,
That have their petals closed at night,
And blossom sprightly in sunlight!

They pop 'midst large green leaves wide-spread,
And appear white, blue, pink and red -
Symbol for purity, beauty,
Aesthetics, spirituality.

Red lotus refers to the heart;
Compassion love, its innate part;
A wonder born in stagnant lakes,
That eyes beholding joyous, makes.

God has the lotus for own seat
-A flower made by his own feat.
