Sonnet: The Summer Shower Poem by Dr John Celes

Sonnet: The Summer Shower

One downpour made the leafless plants verdure,
As life returned to twigs that looked quite dead;
The summer’s drought this year was so severe,
And led to death of men and cattle-head!

The rain resurrected most plants in wild!
The garden-shrubs of human toil shriveled;
To men, it did afford relief but mild;
But birds and other animals reveled!

The rain was like a miracle from sky!
The weather-stations could not forecast it;
It wet the lands that lay all cracked and dry;
The showers were welcome to lands drought-hit!

Yet, man alone did not thank God enough!
He continued to grumble and to scoff!
