Sonnet: War Gives Not Peace Poem by Dr John Celes

Sonnet: War Gives Not Peace

Why waste your time in a useless battle?
Why sacrifice much lives in winning one?
Why herd your sons to frontiers like cattle?
Why live a wretched life till it is won?

Why maim thyselves and other men so grave?
Why leave behind widows, mothers sans sons?
Why progress to thy nation thou deprave?
Ain't there ways to settle disputes sans guns?

Oh stupid men, thy war should be within;
In thy mind, heart and soul 'gainst the devil;
No peace can come by ceaseless wars and sin;
Ye fight to live, not perish 'gainst evil.
God made all things to share and to enjoy;
In Peaceful Co-existence lies true joy.
