Spanish eyes
I met him and for days
-dived in words and research
-thought of him; and our pasts
-Middle East to Hijaz, Ottomans
-to El-Cid a "Mister", or servant
-turned into a hero; well-praised…
-Sure, he is of Andes, further south.
But somehow
-I ended with charcoal…
-crushed and converted to be balls
-for Korsi in winter…
Home, culture, memories
-follow me everywhere
-striking a match, its spark!
Wanted to write of eyes
-of young man in basement
-where he lived as his house
-poor he is and pays rent…
Came at door his order
-had amount prepared
-a fifty and Looney
-expecting to get back
-what he gives in excess
-a-ten-bill, but never…
He is shy
-his eyes shine
-as do dogs'
-when look for
-piece of bone as reward…
Says nothing
-neither whines
-ten is gone with pride…
And his eyes' blackness
-reflect on the eyeballs
-they take me to charcoal
-which were once plenty
-like girls' eyes, in Iran.
I fly on magic
-of Potter…
-of Rowling…
Siavash is waiting …
-a poet; a leftist, nationalist…
His method, greatly:
- "Be simple, write of things
-that happen day to day, and weekly…"
Like him I have rebelled
-have helped, were united
-to kick shah off throne
-we hoped for some delight…
Instead, both of us on the run
-had to leave the warmth of
-family and home and country
-to end up in deserts and mountains
-have had to wail in jails! ! !
We cry, our tears
-make brooks, streams
-floods fill seven seas!
-till we die as do rats;
-cockroaches if smashed!
-Stops our suffering with life's end…
Freedom we write of
-but life is behind bars!
Hey, young with black eyes
Hey, you with face and tongue
-that reveal, speak out
-that you are a hybrid
-of Arab-Spanish
-with blood of Andes
-in you I found poet; Kasrai…
