Stone Poem by Barry Middleton

Stone

Rating: 5.0

in the end life is swept clean
like the polished stones
of a spring water creek

elements of happiness and pain
drift downstream
leaving behind the stolid soul

like a stone it does not feel
like a child it waits
like an old man it observes

my hands embrace the waters
I wash my fevered brow
a stone gazes upon a stone

A great conclusion of one's life.In an icon the feeling we get from this world!

A soul within a stone. It is an interesting metaphor and makes sense to me. A stone gazes upon a stone is difficult to read, yet comforting at the same time. Beautiful metaphorical write.

Thank you. When death looms one call feel quite numb. Like stone. And those spring creeks of my childhood hold a special meaning for me.

Very powerful write the metaphors bittersweet I enjoyed the cool waters of the poem after all death is but a heart beat away and we go on the journey alone 10++
