Stone Poem by Judy Jones

Stone

Rating: 5.0

I can not forget the image
of looking into your eyes
Trying to see what stirs behind them

I imagined hazel stars
Energy bursting off them in an ecstatic show of passion
But that was long ago
I now know they are only stone
That has grown cold
Or perhaps they have always been like that?

The countless times I wished upon them
Hoping to hear your true thoughts
Nothing in return

The endless sighs as I retreat in silence
My gaze drifting off into a haze of solitude
Distance filling up the space and silence between us
I continuously wait for just a simple word
That I am more than someone just filling up the vacancy

But this infinite wave of hope has halted
My struggle
Pulling it into a downward spiral
And scattering it into broken pieces of lies
I stand up and turn away
I will no longer linger on past highways
Hoping for another pleasant ride from a familiar face

So foolish to think someone can dramatically change
Foolish to keep coming back
Foolish to waste my time writing words about you
