Subterfuge Poem by Hannington Mumo

Subterfuge

I move into both obscurity and light;
I must with dwindling chances fight.
The first half of the day is fairly great,
The rest grows quite tough and strait.

Sometimes some love of worthy toil hits,
Sometimes huge loathing of labor comes.
My best part is to a useful mindset cast,
But soon that lurking malingerer numbs.

I must wonder how these foes coexist:
Apt appetite to work no-one can resist,
And big dislike for exertions of all kind;
Turns-taking enemies tricking my mind.

Betimes I hardly can have enough
Of tasks needing brain and brawn,
And betimes I cannot a finger move
Beyond that all-maiming laxity zone.

A helpless home to lethargy and zeal at turns,
I battle a mirage-like ruse that never adjourns.
