Summer Poem by Joseph Enright

Summer

In summer time when sun is high,
Gentle breezes touch the leaves
With butterfly kisses,
Telling secrets to the trees,
Blue skys, bluer than blue,
Green grass, greener than green.

Sunflowers turn their majestic heads
Following suns journey cross a cloudless sky
Yellow furze pop their pods
Perfuming the air,
Sending fertile seeds
On journey of reproduction.

Cattle stand knee deep
In lazy meandering streams,
Swishing their tails
At pestering flies
Dandelion seeds float by
Silent parachutists of the sky.

In the twilllight of the evening
Crows gather noisily to roost
Songbirds herald darkness,
Nervous rabbits nibble grasses
Night creatures stir to greet
Emerging night.
Darkness enfolds the land
In its black velvet hand....
