Sun Will Rise Poem by Sharad Chandra

Sun Will Rise

Sun Will Rise

There was light all around
I was happy and satisfied
worked hard unvaried
day and night night and day
unceasing unstopped
no break relief respite or delay
no entr'acte or interregnum
until the very last fray.

Then read
re-read many times
changed a word
rephrased a phrase
turned pages
left to right right to left
reading aloud to myself
finding nothing
more to add or subtract
scribbled final on the top page
and retired for the night
heaving a sigh of relief
to relax my mind and sleep
reposefully till sunrise.

morning arrived the next day
and many times after that
but sun didn't rise
ages have passed since then
it's been unvarying dark
and I've been waiting relentless
without losing heart
I know that day will come
when dawn will dawn
and sun will rise
it just cannot be
otherwise.
