Sunflowers Poem by Mycho Jamil

Sunflowers

Rating: 4.5

At this spurring moment,
Beside the blooming meadow,
It blurts my true sentiment
Of why we are here in its shadow

Retrograding, we both had one thing in mind:
To simply gaze on these golden flowers
And there's no reason for us to look behind
We'll stay here together for how many hours

Our eyes met as we admired their vibrant bloom
And then suddenly our smiles collided,
The gleam in your eyes began to loom;
I wondered if this feeling was one-sided

The cool breeze howled between us,
Making the yellow petals dance along
No matter how long time may pass,
This place is where we truly belong

Yet, it made me abruptly contemplate
You never told me what you felt
And there's nothing that can compensate
On how you easily made my heart melt

Below the sunflowers lie the morning glories
These purple flowers bloom as the sun rises
Yet these two flowers have different stories
Our sunflowers bloom like all the sunrises

Just as how natural your smile is
It's the perfect feature of your face
And it is what I'll always miss
It's something nothing can replace

Tell me what you feel
'Cause my heart's not lying
I hope that this is all real
'Cause it's what I've been praying

And now you turned your eyes to me
It unexpectedly became a blank stare
Tell me what those beautiful eyes see
'Cause it seemed like they don't care

Don't care about what?
The fact that I love you?
Don't just give me a pat
Don't you love me too?

Shall I pick out its precious petal?
One by one, they'll fall to the ground
And every loss will surely be fatal
None except darkness will surround

Like all the memories we've made
Will they all just be forgotten?
Day by day, they'll slowly fade
Tearing all the pages we've written

Everything changed since then
It's the constant thing after all
I'm still here waiting on when
You'll answer my only call

My true sentiment?
It's to simply spend my time with you
Not caring how much is spent,
What matters is that I'm with you

Now I stand alone beside its patch
Our memory here takes me back
But you're someone I'll never catch
Your smile is what the sunflowers lack.
