Sweet Annie Poem by Joyce Hemsley

Sweet Annie

A love affair began in Killarney
As they walked where the clover grows.
Annie was quite beautiful then,
Elegant and trim ~ like the rose.

Their love was well-known in Killarney
Carved on every greenwood tree.
A romance to last through a lifetime...
Until fate changed their destiny.

He placed golden rings on her finger
And the bells rang out for his Bride.
But a rhapsody changed to a song of woe
As suddenly and sadly sweet Annie died.

Homeward he travelled across the sea
To a world that was stormy and grey.
Oh, how he missed his elegant rose
Calling her name night and day.

Left all alone, his heart full of sorrow,
And life's pleasures so very few.
He is longing for heaven's angels to say:
'Your sweet Annie is waiting for you'.
