Sweet Flower Poem by Achim Wollscheid

Sweet Flower

We ran, hand in hand, you looking back at the sun
That was setting sleepily into the abundant hills;
You skipped with happiness in your heels,
With a smile imprinted on your little lips.
To think it was the beginning of a long story
When in fact it was nearing so close to the end.
It repeats time and time again in my dizzy head.
Moments, the precious ones remind me that I have been
Through clouds and planets, it is really where I have been.
That I have known flowers that have made my heart bloom,
Enchanting flowers that were wilted too soon.
One was lifeless, there in the street, its twitching fingers,
Its eyes fixated on the darkened sky,
Blood exuded from its opened mouth;
That flower could not be watered back to life.
I know I ran away, farther than my feet could drag
Like a coward would from a perilous fight.
She was that flower that I readily left behind.
Motionless, she bled, that skipping friend of mine.
Her hair blew in her brown eyes, they were opened wide
Tearless, emotionless, blank with unconsciousness,
And forever she lay with the marking of the bullet
That was buried unsuitably in her chest.
It flew with such speed, freely it made its way into her heart.
We ran and we ran, but we were cleaved apart.
Yes, it replays sometimes like a broken record.
Over time, the song seems to dishearten...
Although it makes me tremble I am still faced to listen.
I let it blow and carry in the wind, though not all our past.
I go before that day, when I traveled with the stars
And danced with zeal with the sun and the moons,
Anticipating and watching for my heart to bloom.
It cannot be the end when I talked with all those flowers
Though they withered and departed.
I relive those days I ran, I held on to your stem!
We ran hand in hand, catching the wispy air that swiveled here and there;
It carried us ultimately, nowhere
But she always ended up here beside me, and I beside her
And we did not strive to be anywhere other than where we were.
Now I run alone with no one by my side,
And forever dream to stumble upon my sweet faded flower.
