Sweet Love Poem by Nassy Fesharaki

Sweet Love

Sweet Love

In eighteen-eighty-five
Battleford was scene of
The news of the wars,
True and falsified…

Settlers had power
And made a government.

They saw and considered
The non-white, Savages!

"Land is rich and is fair! "
Said those like Laurie
And planned take over.

Start was too simple:
"Accept us as your guest."

Then after was trade
With hunters, trappers.

Later came talk of faith:
"The Great Spirit's Followers
Are Pagans, go to Hell! "

Said priests and bishops:
"Jesus is righteous Lord
That gave up his blood
For the sake of mankind."

But, in fact, Son of God
Did so to help the White.

He allowed murder of…

With Guest came horse and gun
And the chains, iron balls
And gallows, scaffolds
With which they caused terror
Among the old owners
Of land of buffalo…

One of eight hung by noose
In Black November
Of the darkest of years
Was some man, very young.

His ending was sweet
And very romantic
As seen in "War Trail"
Of the Bill Cameron.

Believer of old faith
Had a single fear.

Crossing many fields
And the hills after hills
To reach the spirits!

He wanted better shoes
Strong on top, sole…

Came along sweetheart
In her hand moccasins
With very thick leather
Of hunted buffalo…

While going to be hung
Put newest shoes on
Work of his sweetheart
With greatest of hearts
And in face two red eyes,
Watched Great Spirit…

She wandered in valleys
And marshes, prairies
And drank from ponds,
Chewing on berry-buds.

With this love story
Can get lost, be buried
In the soles of the feet
Shakespeare to Pushkin
And Persians' Ganjavi.
