Symphonies For Supper Poem by Victoria Lam

Symphonies For Supper

Give me an egg for breakfast
that,
when I crack it,
pours forth a golden sphere
of Debussy's sweetest melodies-
Clair de Lune,
accented with white salt crystals and black pepper crescendoes.

A mild cup of soup for lunch, please
with delicate note-shaped noodles
that warm my stomach,
and slip
and slide
in time to a waltz around Swan Lake.

Boiled yams, corn, and beef for dinner!
Harmonize with a thin layer of fresh butter
and place it neatly together,
so that I can conduct the New World Symphony
of superior melodic flavour,
bite
by
bite.

Slip a lullaby under my pillow before I fall asleep,
A purple bud of lavender,
adorned with the sweet honey breath of Brahms.
Let it guard me at rest,
and drape me in a blanket of music from the blessed.
