Tamarind Tree Poem by Bernard F. Asuncion

Tamarind Tree

Rating: 5.0

An African green fruit of the tamarind tree
Has an oblong brown pod with one to twelve flat seeds,
They are all embedded in a pulp so sticky
Which is used in preserves to flavor foods one needs,
It promotes proper blood flow in human body,
It boosts immune system as it offers good deeds,
It gives relief from gout, aiding in digestion,
Helps control blood pressure and heals inflammation.

It is beneficial in controlling joint pain,
It is used to enhance the good cholesterol,
Don't deny nor neglect the benefit or gain
From this powerful fruit known by many people,
Never let Lord God's grace be worthless or in vain,
Let us taste the sweetness so nice and wonderful,
The hard yellowish wood in tropical country
Has pinnate lovely leaves of a tamarind tree.

People of India are also very familiar with this tropical fruit. And immediately drew my attention. The piece is very well-crafted, and it is not just poetry, but gives wealth of information as well. Well done.

The poem deserves full marks as it brings out through a fine description the spicy and medicinal properties of tamarind-fruit grown and known in various parts of the world. The thought of tamaring brings water in the mouth. Thanks, Bernard. I quote from the poem: Don't deny nor neglect the benefit or gain From this powerful fruit known by many people
