Tanka-Iv Poem by Shreej k.c

Tanka-Iv

calm endorheic lake
old stoic oars rowing slow
fret at hyacinth
yet the sea fails to lure them
into its wave of vastness

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
When your haiku refuses to meet the criteria, you simply try to rearrange them into the tanka!

(water hyacinth) invasion has become a chronic problem in lakes of Nepal. 'Jalakumbhi' is a fast growing aquatic plant that has earned the notoriety of being an invasive species. Under optimal conditions—which include relatively high nitrogen and phosphorous levels and temperatures in the range of 28-30 degrees Celsius—its mass doubles in as few as 12 days. If uncontrolled, it eventually blankets the water surface killing and displacing other aquatic plants and animals and creating a visually unappealing landscape.
