Mr. Gear worked hard,
driving the endless machine
he put all his effort
making it go and go.
He made it his endeavor
to be efficient and productive
and told himself again and again
that he was the most important part
He sacrificed his leisure
to routine and procedures
committed to improving
his usefulness and purpose
he said if he just worked hard
he'd be rewarded for his service
believing in the machine
and thinking the machine believed in him
He said you must always tough it out
if you want to go somewhere
if you don't work hard your lazy
if you cant hold the load you bare
he said if your slow and weak
that you should be throwing out
only the strongest gears survive
and Mr gear was strong
but every day his joints
began to feel their wear and tear
his teeth began to stutter
as his torque began to flutter
and as fast as he could move
the slower he became
as he tried to to serve the machine
but the machine grew tired of him
and the stress began to show
As Mr Gear worked hard and hard
as he tried to pull his weight
against the wheel of inevitable fate
but he was slow and growing so old
and he new his time was up
he had hoped the machine would love him
but the machine just loved itself
and with a wheezing groaning
Mr gear broke down
and instead of being fixed
the machine just threw him away
and replaced him with a new gear
who was younger and much faster
as Old mr gear rusted
the great machine moved on.
As mr gear worked on and on
This is the story of humans with modern technology, a struggle whose roots go deep into the dialectical relationship between spirit and materials. Here, like Mr. Gear, if we wrestle with the machine materially, it will undoubtedly triumph over us.
Mr. Gear worked hard, believing in the machine and thinking the machine believed in him *** he had hoped the machine would love him but the machine just loved itself *** and with a wheezing groaning Mr gear broke down and instead of being fixed the machine just threw him away
