The Bed We Shared Poem by Bill Galvin

The Bed We Shared

Rating: 5.0

A diagnosis as ghastly as could be;
An empty space where you should be.
What I'd give to hear you complain once again
-Of elbows and knees bumping in the night,
-Of noises and snoring as we got older.
I'd give it all to retain some of that past,
-Where our love-making was young and bright,
-When our bodies were so much bolder.

I know… oh, I know.
It's the way life is, it's nothing new;
Except when it's happening to you.

Now I lie here…

And at 4am my arm drapes over to your side,
And there is no you here.

There - is - no - you - here.

My life-long love will never be here again.

I just lie here…

Highly emotional with a painful flashback but such is the way of life. We feel helpless: There - is - no - you - here.
