The Builders Of Literary Icons Poem by Francis Duggan

The Builders Of Literary Icons

The literary critics tell us who is of literary note
And who is a playwright or novelist and who is a poet
They build literary icons with their words of praise
And from obscurity to major literary figures them raise
For a literary masterpiece a novel or for a screen play
A writer can earn millions in money today
Just by the literary critics saying his or her work is great
From obscurity a major literary critic they can create
With the power of their words and the power of the pen
The literary critics create major literary women and men
They helped to establish the major literary figures of today
The builders of literary icons of them one can say
With their words literary reputations they can destroy
Still I do not think their sort of power I could enjoy.
