The Earth
confided her regret
to the sky.
She loved all her children
the same:
the forest
the countryside
the mountain
the tundra
the savanna
and all the others
but every time she looked
at the sea and at the sky
she couldn't help but think
that they were always the same,
inexpressive and lacking character,
empty inside
because they were dull on the outside.
"You are wrong, "
the sky replied
"don't be fooled by appearances.
There's no drop of water
no grain of sand
that stays in one place for a long time
because the wind
never stops blowing,
even when it's mild.
I can see it from way up here,
the sea and the desert
never look the same way twice
and of all your many children
they are the most diverse.
The great depths of the soul
love simplicity
and don't seek attention."
