The Closet Monster Poem by Daniel Y.

The Closet Monster

Little child cannot sleep
the night light gives an eerie glow
the closet crack, oozes back
and forth comes creek and moan.
In the dark hides the monster
with monstrous teeth that chomp and bite.
The monster sharpens many claws
surely drooling with delight.
The little child cannot sleep
“what unknown things behind doors creep?
what devious plans hath the monster in store
to pick my bones and feast on gore?
two eyes of amber red
sit beneath my sister’s bed.
and I the closet monster fare-
in the nothing must I stare.
I the braver of the two
must face this monster,
that I'll do! ”
Little child took a sword in hand
and slay the mighty shark of land
and thus the child became a king
and ruled the long, dark night
by dream.
