The Corncrake Poem by Liam ó Comáin

The Corncrake

Along the passage
Of the years
Breaking the silence
Of the vale.

A child awake
In the quiet of the night
Observing stars
Through an attic skylight.

What did you look like?
Where did you come from?
What was the distance?
My thoughts then as you
Continued to continue…

Alas, you are silent.
Much combining
To bring about your demise,
But I still hear- staccato like-
Crek crek crek crek!
