The Cost

The blackness is so quiet,
The silence absolute,
The absence of sensation, comforting in its nothingness,

Let it go, release the ties that bind,
Time falls away as life closes its eyes,

The final breath whispers softly past my lips,
As i look to the light,

The waiting arms will comfort, the gentle smile will reassure,
The promises of forgiveness tempt the soul,

Yet I turn from the saving grace of hope,
And seek out vengence and retribution,

Accepting the price, I walk into the darkness.
