The Count Poem by Gabriel Jirgba

The Count

Days have began their count
Rushing slowly -yet counting
On the morrow I may be gone
School is calling

These alone shall I remember
Of dreams and of wishes
I dreamt of passion and love
I desired to lick your lips
and kiss your fingers
I wanted to make you cry
for me oceans of tears
And then make you smile
and laugh and laugh
Be someone you'll love
And only keep to think about
in the passing seconds

But ah! Now I wonder
I know not where we would be
I know not if I ever will stand
in light of your affection
Of your desires and dreams
When the count has gone down
The wall has been raised
And you and I are distant
So I pray
It's all I know to do
I pray and I hope
