The 'Curse' Of Alone Poem by Adens Kamwi

The 'Curse' Of Alone

Single? You serious? What’s wrong with you?

That question annoys me, does it annoy you too?

The world’s obsession with finding “the one”

Is rather tragic, cause now people settle for anyone

Okay so we all want to be loved, but why settle?

I know you think you have found your “soul mate”

But really how can anyone be a “soul mate” if death separates?

Shakespearean words, Titanic gestures, everlasting promises?

Are these the kind of things love was meant to be

Surely we all know that love is as much Bliss as it is tragedy

So why do we keep seeking “the one”

What’s this curse that we have put upon “alone”?

Yes I’m single, Yes I’m serious, and no there’s nothing wrong with me!

I just know that the propaganda this world is selling about my “soul mate”

Is fake

I won’t settle for anyone, I want someone, Not a “soul mate” or “the one”

Just someone who understands me, why I like eating candy right after spaghetti

Or why I listen to Coldplay before I go to bed

So the curse of “alone” is not a curse, it is freedom

Freedom to grow and learn

So when I do meet someone, I know who I am
