The Distant After Dark Poem by Raj Dronamraju

The Distant After Dark

Rating: 5.0

Some place I'd never been to before
Where a community springs up around a shopping mall of amnesia
Dirty pool is shared among friends; it's how they talk to one another

Alone in twilight speaking aloneness
The fading light is a springboard for bitter babble
An enmity that gives way to ennui
That gives away to imagining what other people are doing

Because we know that somewhere they lost themselves
In loud lights and clattering company
Spitting choice centimeters of vandalized personal narrative
Hoping not to be alone

Also known is how far away are those UFO lights
And how far away is the toil of the evening
So different from the toil of the day
These daily guarantees are invisible in the light of the moon
