The Dream Poem by Fiona Burgess

The Dream

In the distance lies a dream
Though you can barely see it
Far away as it may seem
Not so far that you cannot reach it

Many hills and valleys lie between
Shrouded in mist and shadow
But like a beacon that dream does gleam
Guiding you through the darkness

Sometimes the path is straight and wide
Sometimes it’s winding and narrow
But still you continue across the divide
In your quest to reach that dream

Sometimes you lie down, bleeding and sore
Wearied beyond comprehension
And just when you think you can go no more
A smile from a stranger gives you strength

So while that dream is still far away
And the path becomes increasingly difficult
Closer you get to that dream each day
With every step you take.
