The End Of A Chapter - The Beginning Of A New One Poem by Patrick Calleja

I'm remembering the time when I used to like this girl
Once sitting in my class room on the day of her birthday
I had this idea of surprising her for her birthday
I had this idea of doing something special for her
Silently thinking in my head of what I should do
Not paying the slightest attention to History of Philosophy
And whether Heraclitus slipped into the river or not
I thought about getting the bus all the way to her place
And on the way I would get a large pizza from nearby
Which we would eat together on her porch
And talk till our heart's content while gazing at the stars
It's sad to think that this indeed never happened
And that I never got to surprise her on her birthday
It's also sad to know that we never went out
And that she never got to know I liked her
However there's a happy ending to this story
Although I don't feel for her any more
We're still friends - Which is great
And she's going out with a good guy
Who is right for her - Better than I could have ever been
So things have indeed ended pretty well in this chapter
Which makes it an ideal time to start a new one
