The Eye Test written by Bryan Cobaris
inspired by The Holy Spirit
Doctor, Doctor…I need you to please examine my eyes.
I see chaos in the world, but they say what I see are lies.
I saw a report that our brave soldiers have been hunted for pay.
But most of the focus was placed on a presidential run by Kanye.
Why do I see the news zeroed in on all of the political Red vs. Blue fights,
But not about the secret police beating Americans and violating their rights?
Why have unemployment benefits been treated as an option and not a must,
with millions out of work, we're distracted by "entanglements with Auguste"?
I see comments that people of color need to move on and stop the excuses.
But if racism is in the past, why do I see modern-day lynching and nooses?
With injustices I see happening it's disturbing when "good people" remain quiet.
It teaches youth that peaceful protest are only heard when others loot and riot.
Why do I see schools reopening without protection for every worker, boy and girl,
But we have a higher number of virus cases than anywhere else in the world?
And I see when the virus isn't killing us, we're willfully eagerly killing each other.
By shedding your blood, I'm hurting myself; you're my sister and my brother.
I don't say any of this because I have given up; I have hope that we can do more.
There are discussions that we need to have together, and this may open the door.
It's hard to watch the country that I love as it is hurting and slowly dying.
But I guess if I'm the only one who sees this then my eyes must be lying.
