'The Facebook World' Poem by Pushpinder Kaur

'The Facebook World'

The Facebook World

A new world
Strange, exciting and satisfying-
An opener to new horizons
New friendships,
Most importantly- a reconnect with the past.

A world of shocking revelation-
Sometimes?

One such instance,
A Reconnect with the world of childhood-
going back,40 years of life
6 months back…
it brought a world of precious memories
when the world of Facebook- built a bond for me
with my cousin brother,
Dr. Satpal Singh Virdi.

May his blessed soul rest in peace-
an eminent scholar and Physicist,
a Professor, highly acclaimed
for his intellectual brilliance
and command of the subject.

The black motor cycle that he rode
With his beautiful new bride- Kiran,
Adorned with the unique gift of the
charming smile, on her dimpled chin…
held a special fascination for
the small child- myself
Who looked up to them-
not knowing that 40 years hence, I too would
follow on the same path of academics-
following the valuable lineage.

Thanks to the world of Facebook
for the precious reconnect-
till one morning, when
the heart lost a beat,
To know early morning, of the sudden demise…

Had it not been for Facebook
there was a probability of never finding out;
Such are the distances created in time and space
with the moving hands of the clock.

Where shall we find Einstein on fb?
Who shall share the Physics puzzles
and quibbles?

Dear brother, you are fondly remembered-
My heart's desire of meeting you after 40 odd years
shall remain unfulfilled
unless the heart's bonds are beyond the touch of time.
