The First Try. Soon Second. Poem by Ellen Rose Kelley

The First Try. Soon Second.

Tonight is the end,
the last time for this hurt.
She'll soon be among the dead
her life willingly subvert.

She knows what is to come,
the final pain-filled blow.
Providing sweet escape from
Everything she's ever known.

She lies there in the darkness,
realizing one thing.
Pain, however monstrous,
has very tiny strings.

Bright colors all around,
harmonious, clapping hands
as she hits cold ground
life, eternal commands.

Disappointment, raw and real
hits her like a hammer.
As unwanted breath appeals
the thing for which she enamors.

She knows she'll try again,
she know's there'll be another end.
She's go nothing left to drain
and death is her new friend.
