The Girl In Op Shop Clothes Poem by Francis Duggan

The Girl In Op Shop Clothes

Once more the poor fringe dweller is a victim of the snub
She was not made to feel welcome in the mutual admiration club
But of course they have their standards you must know what i mean
On their gents and ladies toilet walls a potrait of their queen.

I could have told her differently from that place to stay away
But that would be reverse snobbery and that game we should not play
They did not make her welcome she found out the hard way
The next time she will be wiser for wisdom we must pay.

She should have known far better the girl in op shop clothes
That in the posh leafy suburb they don't accept a Downtown rose
From the tough street she lives on a hard hike to renown
They do come up the hard way on her side of the Town.

You must move from the poor street on your road to success
For many they will judge you by your postal address
Far too naive and honest the snobs she did not impress
They did not wish to know her because she wore an op shop dress.
