The Greed Of Humanity Poem by Daya Nandan

The greed of humanity has wrecked our Earth,
Because we have failed to appreciate our planet's worth,
We have chased money and power until a stage,
Where we have knowingly locked our planet in a burning cage,

Polluted oceans with toxic and plastic waste,
Antibiotic resistant bacteria in the food we taste,
We are effectively poisoning the food we eat
Our water, vegetables, our fish and especially our meat,

Drinking water now contains traces of micro-plastics,
Many animal species are gone because of actions so drastic,
The deforestation causing landslides and global warming,
Melting icecaps and rising sea levels are part of the mess we are forming,

Even the air we breathe is now polluted with toxic fumes,
Acid rain kills plants and aquatic life while we hide in our rooms,
They say money is the root of all evil and sin,
Materialistic greed has made us worst than we have ever been,

Mother nature has given us enough to satisfy our need,
Yet we abuse our environment in the name of greed,
We spend billions funding explorations to planets outside of earth,
Yet we have failed to appreciate our own planet's worth,

For this is our only home that we know and love,
The one habitable place gifted to us by god above,
We should open our eyes and make a greater effort to change our fate,
We must save our planet and future generations before it is too late.
