The Half Slain Soldier Poem by Sumanta Dhar

The Half Slain Soldier

Often I pretend
To put up a fight
With my future
Like a shadow
It teases me
By remaining elusive
Nevertheless, just yesterday
When I cared to spare a moment
In front of our humble mirror
I saw my jaded face
Trying to jerk up a smile
But in vein
Like a soldier
Half slain
