The Kingdom Of Dogs (33)

Holocaust

By Freeyad Ibrahim

A few months ago, the temperature dropped to 20 below zero
No one dared to go out that day except the madman or a hero
Or something more important than his life
Something more important than his wife
Hundreds came out, and they were not alone
They went out not for nothing out their own zone
But because of the loneliness, grief, and boredom
That their dogs will suffer from their own kingdom
Hundreds of cat owners stormed the building of a dog and cat care center
after they saw on TV one of the aggressors,
treating his cat with abuse and torture.
They balled their hands into iron fists,
demanding that the perpetrator be arrested, tortured,
and punished in a manner like their pets tortured

And everyone sees with their own eyes the blood of
Children,
Women,
Elderly
In front and under the rubble.
The victims wail and shout, ‘O lowly world, where are you?
Where are you, look how our blood lakes dribble?
Where is your honour, where is your conscience?
Gaza dies dozens of times every day
We are slaughtered
Burned to death
Hungered
Killed
Our women are made widows,
Our men made wife-and-childless,
Hungry and sick children without medicine
Careless
The smell of fire in the spring became the smell of hell,
you are shameless
Where are you?
Not a cat is killed here…
Not a dog is slaughtered here
There is no sweet bird here.
They flew and escaped with their skins in Gaza Holocaust
We humans are the only that remain here
Powerless
Friendless
We have not got houses to live or to dwell
All rubble
Homeless
Where is your conscience?
Who rushes to extinguish the fire?
You are the extinguishers?
You are the ones who kindle,
You are the observers,
and you are the attenders,
Why do you not object, protest, and gather your fists
as you did and are doing when you see your dogs tortured
and your cats beaten
We are human beings like you
We are not beaten but devoured & eaten
We defend animal rights like you! '
