The Knot Frays Poem by Ibn Ali

The Knot Frays

Friendships like shabby knees on worn denim jeans
People we swore we'd die for, estranged,
We no longer speak
The knot frays
Loose pieces pulled see them untangled
It's been a while
Awkward words, forcing the pieces in the puzzle
Not realizing the picture changed
There's new fences
It seems our stories were written in pencil
So easily erased
We part with smiles
Relieved to see an end to this mascarade
But I remember days
I recall the times
When we were close
But those features finished
The credits roll and onlookers exit
Memories are born
Contours in the land you helped form
And sometimes I love to revisit
