The Last Day's Morning Had Dawned Poem by Michael Pruchnicki

The Last Day's Morning Had Dawned

The last Day's Morning had dawned -
And delighted that the Sun
Had risen-had brightened my Day-
I abandoned my House-

Fallen into Ruin from the War-
Raging in the Land-
I pushed my Cart through Fields
Dry and desolate-

I saw the Dead in windrows-
Legs askew and twisted arms-
Roads blackened and burnt-
Asphalt bubbling in blood-

My Family had evaporated-
Casualties of the first Bomb-
I had no Tears left-
My Heart empty and void-
