The Last Odalisque Poem by Kenneth Umunna

The Last Odalisque

So fair you are within and out
The calm you show a grace so clear
I hope it’s not because you serve
Although I know much better now
That every trait you show is real

So humble you are within and out
This virtue is one I love the most
Although I have not much of it.
A sceptre I will make for you
Upon your freedom it will come

So free you are within and out
The freedom you sought for so long
It’s come your way at last
You won’t serve but be served
Around the banquet as me

My name you’ll bear, your name discard
For doors of steel mine will tear
And bring you homages unending
Don’t mind my speech fair lady
My pride is at it again
