The Letdown Poem by Thomas Taylor

The Letdown

They smile at each other
They share a kiss
They did it.
They're finally ready
They tell all their friends
Invite them to come
They make plans for it to be big and beautiful
And it will be
Or it would be
But then they go to find a chapel
They look for one thats just right
Big with a good priest.
Thats when they see it.
The perfect chapel
They smile and walk in hand in hand
The butterflies in thier stomachs are hardly containable
Then they meet the priest
He smiles and asks them what they want
They tell him
And watch the look on his face change
From one of happiness to one of confusion
'Im sorry but thats illegal' He says
What? !
But thier in love
The preist shrugs
'Since when did love matter in this sort of thing? '
And so they leave downtrodden and broken.
They'll never have the one thing they truly want.
Just because they're a little bit different.
