The Lonely Girl... Poem by Rituparna Choudhury

The Lonely Girl...

As I crossed a busy road,
I saw a little girl
standing on the footpath..
She looked quite confused,
Perhaps she had lost her path.

Her clothes were odd-looking,
filthy and torn,
But a very sweet smile
on her lips..she had worn!

She didn't have anyone with her,
but, only her pretty doll
Whose hair was as long
as the Angel Falls!

In the scorching summer heat,
Umbrella she had not,
..nor slippers to wear
Doesn't anyone look after her?
Doesn't anyone take her care?

She looked both hungry
and thirsty...
If only i could help her!
If only I could give her company!

But soon I realised that,
I had to take my own way,
But still wanted
to take her home
and, with me...
let her forever, stay..
