The Madly, Sadly Chronicled Demise of Colonel Tin

Sadly stuffed my dreams in the bin;
like my dear Colonel Tin.
We traded hope for our fantasy
wins;
oh poor Colonel Tin!

He was a man, a man of
pure talent and grace
and face!
Oh poor Colonel Tin!
He was a man, a man of
good will,
a man of his word
Oh, poor, poor Colonel Tin!
He was a man, a man good to all
(one and all)
especially to the birds!

He was a man, a man
of a laugh and a half.
Poor, poor Colonel Tin!
He was a man, a man of great honour and
will (oh yes!)
A man of a smile worth a mile
(oh yes!)
Colonel Tin! Colonel Tin!
Adieu, adieu to you!

Sadly stuffed all my dreams in the bin;
with poor old Colonel Tin!
I traded love for my fantasy
wins;
like poor Colonel Tin!

His breath was of real iron whiskey;
smelt like death to me!
And with his gaze all ahaze...
Oh poor Colonel Tin!

"Sorry lad you're not special,
it's nothing to wrestle, "
he said to me.
"But with my head
gone to bed..."
Oh poor Colonel Tin!

But no more to think,
give a wink,
say goodbye Colonel Tin!
Nothing to say, give away!
Time to go Colonel Tin!

And now I know I'm not special,
it's nothing to wrestle;
but you were wrong Colonel Tin!
Happily stuffed all my hate in the bin;
Unlike my dear Colonel Tin!
I found a place for my fantasy wins;
Hear, hear Colonel Tin!

But no more to think,
give a wink,
say goodbye Colonel Tin!
Nothing to say, give away!
Time to go Colonel Tin!
Colonel Tin! Colonel Tin!
Goodbye, goodbye!
Colonel Tin! Colonel Tin!
Adieu, adieu to you!

Poet's Notes about The Poem

This was adapted from the lyrics of a song I wrote as a boy. It's meant to be set to music, but I thought I'd post it anyway.
