The Marine, The Singer And The President Poem by Hubert Wilson

The Marine, The Singer And The President

The young Marine saved five from icy Alaskan water demise.
Extraordinary hero in The Corps' eyes.
Reassigned to the Presidential yacht.
Rare chance he got.
Enjoying the President's off-color words.
Noted to even frighten Potomoc birds.
Charging the President's glass with whisky.
Exceptionally blunt and verbally frisky.

Supportive of his daughter's meager singing and acting.
To only the President's family was the alleged talent attracting.
Even the young brave Marine felt his eardrums bruised.
Verily everyone around her the truth refused.
Enthralling the young Marine at first by their conforming.
No greater actors in their performing.

Managing at last an act of candor and bravery.
Confessing frankly to the President her talents were unsavory.
Quaking in his dress uniform and polished shoes.
Unbelievably the young Marine was then bemused?
Effusively relieved the President did not object or even blink.
Encouraging his daughter in another career in literary ink.
Nuances of acting the Marine learned as WITH the President HE had a drink!

When the future 'King of Cool' met Margaret - and Harry!
