~the Masked~ Poem by Pranesh Varan

~the Masked~

Deep into that darkness peering,
long I stood there, wondering,
fearing, doubting, dreaming dreams
no mortal ever dared to dream before.

We wear the mask that grins and lies
it hides our face, and shades our eye
more than the darkness around,
it's the darkness within ourselves
i fear the most
wouldnt it be easier to just live and die?

but after all darkness is necessary
even to bring the early morn' light
cuz however long the night, dawn will break;
only my nights are a little longer than the rest
by the time my dawn breaks, i just might be dead
