The Meek
They are who cannot bear
to meet head-on the hand to play.
In their meekness a fate sure as sure can be;
that feeds the cause of tyranny
-from sea to shining sea-
They are who cannot lift their eyes
above the ground,
their souls long bereft the courage
to bound from the slavish drift
that girds them sound.
They exhibit a flattened dignity
obsequiously genuflecting to power wielding despots
even as they yearn to inherit a world
they cannot bear to know.

Brilliant poem....The two aspects of meekness nicely explained and covered, people who are humble and gentle are taken for granted because of their simplicity and over a period of time the learn to remain so but let them not allow others to use them and abuse them at this cost, the need to assert their values and position and defend self-respect is the profound message. I liked your poem as usual, Sara..God bless you with healthy life.10++++
