The Mermaid's Farewell To The Sailor... Poem by Neera Lollbeeharry

The Mermaid's Farewell To The Sailor...

Rating: 4.5

I sang, you came and you fascinated me.
Never so charming a creature did I see.
You seemed so solid and sanguine to me,
Like me, you roamed the unknown, carefree.
Enthralled, I gave way to the surge of frenzy,
And neared your ship in quest of mystery.

We met in a turmoil of passion replete,
Inducing in me a surrender complete.
From my fluid world I desired concrete,
I battled my nature and bargained for feet.
My voice, my essence, I agreed to forfeit,
To walk and join you on your floating fleet.

Love-struck, I forgot that sailors are airy.
They always leave and are just temporary.
I, the sole constant, in our mercurial story,
Had such great pain to sustain the volatility.
Your choice to roam and mock at fidelity,
Made it clear that I could never be a priority.

My nature re-surged urging me to be free,
To dive once again into my native territory.
I craved ever more for the vast and watery
I missed my fluid world, my blue tranquility.
The tides grew in me swells of melancholy,
I felt it was time to follow my natural destiny...

My heart does feel the twinge of going away,
But I know that you had not come to stay.
You said you would leave and go one day,
And I know you would move on soon anyway.
I choose to go smoothly and clear the way
So...
Adieu my lover, we are happier apart, anyway.
