The Murky Pond Of Politics- Ii Poem by Aniruddha Pathak

The Murky Pond Of Politics- Ii

Rating: 5.0

The hand and its ilk in years have done little,
Slogans, postures, and little more than words,
For dark deeds, pot besides blaming poor kettle,
We voters grin and bear— cattle in herds! '

Whoso takes them, brooms work with barest hands,
Blame nor back-pat, nor yet tongue-in-cheek act,
Hope against hope, the morrow may change trends,
Let action precede talk matter of fact.

‘But you can't use brooms in a dirty pond',
Cavils an old grower of lotus there,
That cleansed, nor redeemed pledges, nor yet bond,
The pond remaining murky O as ere!
Beware still; brooms oft sweep under carpet,
Beware; none of them can be a tame pet.

The poem obviously alludes to the forthcoming elections and dirty one-upmanship. (Hand, lotus, broom are party symbols) . All existing players proving no good, people placed their bets on a new front, which too (as the later events showed)proved no good. And the loud-mouth lotus won on the platform of hope. True, in politics nothing sticks. They are all non-stick! But this twain of a sonnet seems to have warned in vain.

With hind sight, lotus won without delivering much. But still, proving better than others, it won the second round as well.

Another wonderful and insightful poem on the murky pond of politics. I concur with the wonderful comments of Poet Nehal. Brilliantly penned.

Part - 2 note. As per Poet's note... with hind sight, lotus won without delivering much. But still, proving better than others, it won the second round as well. Beautiful sonnet. Thanks for sharing.

part - 1 Different political parties have different symbols like lotus, hand, brooms etc. They make propaganda in favor of them in many ways to win the election. You have so nicely and cutely delineated these two sonnets in the name of " The Murky Pond Of Politics- I and " The Murky Pond Of Politics- Ii " It is nice to have the juxtaposition of poet's
